Who Am I?

Hello World!

I'm new to the blogging world, so I thought I would post about who I am and hopefully as the school year progress, I can post my reflections and lessons as a first year combo teacher!!

So let's start there!
I got my credential in 2012 and subbed for two years. Last year, I had the wonderful opportunity to long-term sub for fifth grade GATE at an awesome school! I learned so much from my time there. It was a last minute thing and I started October 1 and ended my time there the first week of March! That's five months! Like I said, the experience was invaluable and I grew so much as an educator! I honestly cannot say enough wonderful things about the fifth-grade team!

I also just got married this summer!

Yes, I'm very excited to be a newlywed, so I just HAD to share the pictures of my new husband and me!

Although the school year had already started, my new school had very high numbers per class.. bring in the new combo class! To be honest, this is the first interview I'd ever done! I've been invited to two interviews before, but for some reason they were canceled an hour or two after the invitation. Despite the fact, I knew that God had a place for me and I kept my hopes up!
I was VERY pleased when I got the call offering me the position! My husband picked me up and spun me around!

Here I am world, ready to take on the challenges that all first-year teachers face and the challenges that come with teaching two grade levels! But I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!

Now that you know a bit about my education/work experience, here are some personal facts:

• I LOVE to read! My favorite books are The Hunger Games, A Series of Unfortunate Events, most books by Nicholas Sparks, To Kill a Mockingbird, and on and on! I also really love teen fiction, which is why I got along with the GATE class last year because we had much to talk about as they were also avid readers! I'm so excited to do read alouds this year and get them excited about books!
• I'm learning guitar! Now, take that lightly, as I've tried and failed many times, but I am determined to get it down!
• My husband is an awesome guitar player! He inspired me to pick it up again (I tried to learn in elementary school and gave up). He plays in the band at church and also plays metal at home :)
• I love movies! Especially movies based on books! My husband already knows I will give him the play by play of how they messed up the books ;) but seriously, I did theater from junior high to high school and LOVE acting and appreciating the art :)
• I love all things Disney! :)
• I am a proud latina! My parents were born in Mexico and I am so thankful for all of their hard work to help me succeed in anything I wanted to do :)

So there's a little bit about me.. I can't wait to get to know everyone and to share my journey with you all!
